Subaru Loves to Care
Whether they live in our homes or in the wild, Subaru is committed to keeping all animals safe and healthy.
Loving the environment means more than loving the great outdoors. It means working to preserve it.
It’s our goal to make the pursuit of knowledge available to as many minds as possible.
In a perfect world, hunger would be history and hope would be commonplace. We believe a perfect world is possible.
We should all have a chance to lead a healthy life. We’re aiming to give as many people that chance as we can.
Our Love Promise can be seen in various partnerships with local charities and non-profits. We're grateful for the opportunity, not only to be a part of our community, but to serve it as well.
Wentworth Subaru was proud to be the Presenting Sponsor for the Oregon Humane Society Diamond Collar Awards Luncheon and Fundraiser. Bob Wentworth spoke at the event and our group from Wentworth was there to cheer on the award winners and help raise funds so the Oregon Humane Society can continue their life changing work. From a Labrador retriever who brightens the lives of children in need to a young man who raises funds and delivers toys for shelter pets, OHS honors pets and people for heroic acts. The 2017 Diamond Collar Awards honored people and pets who have demonstrated courage and compassion for animals. A special lifetime achievement award was also presented to long-time animal supporter Barbara Coit Yeager. Compassion, Courage and a Desire to Help the Community “The OHS Diamond Collar Awards are a chance to celebrate the heroic stories that exemplify how important pets are in our lives,” said Sharon Harmon, OHS Executive Director, who hosted the awards with KGW chief meteorologist Matt Zaffino. “These winners showed compassion, courage and a desire to help their community.” Generous support from presenting sponsor Wentworth Subaru helped make the awards possible. The event took place this month and was attended by more than 250 people at the Multnomah Athletic Club.
SANTA’S WORKSHOP WENTWORTH DIVISION was open for business. Wentworth Subaru opens Santa’s Workshop every Holiday season. The holidays can get overwhelming and Santa might need some extra help. Our technicians (elves) put toys together at no charge. This is a special service we offer to our customers and our community. The technicians at Wentworth enjoy helping families with their toy assembly. The holidays can be a struggle to get everything done and we like lending a helping hand, expertise and the tools to get the job done.
It's a yearly tradition at Wentworth Subaru to have a food drive for the Portland Police Bureau Sunshine Division during the holidays. The Portland Sunshine Division has been providing food and clothing relief to Portland Families and individuals in need since 1923. During the month of December our customers bring in a cans of food and we give them a discount off a Lube and Oil. Our customers and our employees participate in the can food drive. Our goal is to fill as many large bins as we can. 2016 is proving to be another successful Food Drive. Wentworth Subaru is honored to work with the Portland Police Bureau Sunshine Division to feed a lot of families struggling at this time.
"Thanks to many supporters, including Platinum Sponsor, Wentworth Subaru, Doernbecher Freestyle XIII was a record-breaking success raising over $1.2 million dollars for Doernbecher Children's Hospital! We had record-breaking attendance with over 650 people in the room and at one point, Doernbecher Freestyle was trending #1 on Twitter - ahead of the World Series!" - Sarah Lawson, Assistant Director of Annual Programs for OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital. Wentworth Subaru was proud to be a part of the Doernbecher Freestyle XIII Fundraiser. Six young Doernbecher patients have all refused to let serious illness or trauma stop them from laughing, learning and dreaming big. They each got to work with Nike Designers to design a shoe. The unveiling of their designs and their stories were presented at the Doernbecher Freestyle "Unstoppable" Fundraiser. Wentworth Subaru was in attendance and were moved by these brave kids stories and elated with the success of the evening. $1.2 million dollars was raised for OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital that evening.
Wentworth Subaru and Subaru Love Pets. We are both committed to animal welfare and we partner with organizations that are too. Wentworth Subaru was honored to provide a pallet of good quality dog food to our local "Pongo Fund." The Pongo Fund -The Pet Food Bank provides quality food and vital veterinary care for the family pet of anyone in honest need, keeping them safe, healthy and out of shelters. The Pongo fund has provided 9,000,000 healthy meals to the animals. It was great to meet with Larry Chusid, Pongo Fund creator, and see first-hand the incredible work they are doing for the family pet and struggling families in our community. Larry shared a heartwarming story about a struggling family that had to give up their dog because they didn’t have the money to feed both the dog and their family. A year later their kids were lashing out and they had a social worker ask the kids what was causing these outbursts. They discovered losing the dog made them feel that they might be next because their parents were again having difficulty making ends meet. The goal of the Pongo Fund is to help family keep their family pets.
Brandon Wentworth and Grant Wentworth delivered boxes of books to the "Creative Science" School Library in Portland, Oregon. Each book had a special message from our Subaru customers. Creative Science School students are encouraged to be independent thinkers, learners, and problem solvers. Wentworth Subaru was honored to deliver boxes of books for their library. The book donation was part of the Subaru Loves Learning program. The boxes were filled with Science books for all different ages.
Wentworth Subaru employees loaded two Subarus with donated food for the Oregon Food Bank. We appreciate all the work that the Oregon Food Bank does for families in our community. The Oregon Food bank is a local charity that feeds children, families, seniors, veterans and the disabled. Their mission is "to eliminate hunger and its root causes…because no one should be hungry". Wentworth Subaru couldn’t agree more. A large number of Wentworth Subaru employees went home to check their cupboards to see what they could give. Others made a special trip to the store to help this worthy cause. One of our departments went around to their employees with a hat and gathered donations to make a trip to Costco to pick up high demand items the Oregon Food Bank had identified. Employees came with sacks filled with great items like tuna, chili, soup, peanut butter, etc. We gathered enough food to fill up two Subarus, almost 400 lbs. of food in total. All departments came together to make this a very successful event. Grant and Brandon Wentworth drove the two Subarus to the Oregon Food Bank to make our delivery. The Wentworth Family has been in business in Portland since 1903 and we believe in supporting our community and helping to feed the human spirit.
"Subaru Loves Learning" Book Donation Event was held at Wentworth Subaru. Our goal was to put focus on education and to support the schools in our district. Wentworth Subaru wants to help teachers by providing the teachers and students with award winning science books for their school. Wentworth Subaru is proud to be able to donate 125 science books to the Creative Science School in Portland, Oregon. We were joined by Subaru District Parts and Service Manager Peter Holt and his wife Kathy. Wentworth Subaru has had a long standing relationship with the Oregon Humane Society and support the great work they do to protect, rescue, rehabilitate and find a forever home for animals that need a second chance. Their motto is: "End Petlessness...there's a furry soulmate for everyone". Bob Wentworth addressed the crowd and told his story about his OHS rescue Dog, Newman. Not only did OHS rescue Newman from a kill shelter in California they helped diagnose and treat a medical condition after his adoption. OHS went above and beyond and now Newman is living a healthy and happy life. Over $300,000 was raised Saturday night. It was a night of fundraising and wonderful success stories that show all the lifesaving work being done at OHS. "Subaru loves pets" and so does the team at Wentworth Subaru. We were honored to be a part of such a successful evening. Subaru and Wentworth Subaru are committed to keeping all animals safe and healthy. This is why we have believed in and supported the work being done by the Oregon Humane Society.

We are thrilled to announce that the 29th Annual Doggie Dash has exceeded its goal! After tabulating gifts received over the weekend, the Doggie Dash fundraising total now stands at a record $613,636 – well above the goal of $600,000. Please accept our thanks for your part in making this the best Doggie Dash ever. Are you wondering how far $616,636 will go to help shelter pets? It’s enough to do ALL of the following: spay/neuter 6,000 pets, vaccinate 3,000 pets, give a second chance to 3,250 pets who have run out of time at other shelters, and fund the OHS animal cruelty investigations department for the next six months. That’s something to bark about -- all thanks to all the Dashers, Wentworth Subaru and Subaru of America!

Wentworth Subaru donated their National Wildlife Monarch Butterfly planter to “Sunnyside Environmental School”. The mission of the school is to foster responsibility, excitement for learning and respect for all living things. School gardens teach horticulture and sustainability. The gardens serve as outdoor learning environment throughout the year, integrating a variety of academic subjects including art, math, history, social sciences and natural sciences. In April Wentworth Subaru hosted the National Wildlife Monarch Butterfly Hero planter to bring awareness to the plight of the Monarch Butterfly and the importance of the Monarch Butterfly to our food supply. Wentworth Subaru partnered with the National Wildlife Foundation for the Butterfly Heroes Program. Butterfly Heroes seeks to bring awareness to the declining population and connect our community of gardeners and kids, families, and schools alike to help the monarchs and other pollinators. Creating monarch and pollinator habitat is a wonderful opportunity for observing one of nature’s most miraculous occurrences. Sunnyside Environmental School will teach the kids the importance of creating these wildlife sanctuaries to help the Monarch Butterfly flourish.
April is Subaru's Love the Earth month. Wentworth Subaru is proud to bring awareness to the National Wildlife Federation's Butterfly Hero program. Our goal is to help educate our employees and customers on the importance of increasing our Monarch Butterfly populations through the planting and building of habitats butterflies need to survive, while raising awareness that without these pollinators US crops and subsequently our own food supplies, will suffer. In the month of April Wentworth Subaru is hosting a Certified Wildlife habitat planter and are passing out seed packets and information kits to our customers. We hope this will inspire our customers to take action in their own backyards and create a habitat that will help the Monarch Butterflies flourish.

The April Subaru Loves the Earth E-waste Recycling Event was a huge success at Wentworth Subaru. Our customers were happy to have a place to bring their E-waste to be recycled. We keep old printers, computers, etc... in our garages because we don't want to toss them in the garbage and add to the landfill. This was well received by our customers knowing that their old items would be recycled and put to a good use.
Every December our Santa's workshop is open for business. Wentworth Subaru technicians will put toys together for free for families in need of help during the busy holiday season.
